Yes, of course.
If I was king of China I would have my guys hack into every bank or investment account in the world.
And when the time is right I would remove all the money.
Or maybe, just for fun, I would make all the rich people poor and all the poor people rich.
Either way, I could destroy the West's way of life with the push of a button.

On the topic, this is a very big risk. It makes me thankful we have such a strong military. Think about it... if China wanted to really cripple our country, they probably could in coordination with an invasion, and honestly... based on the fighting skills of those on the left coast, I think they'd make it pretty far if it wasn't for our strong military. The war might even end on Jolly's porch when he turns the tide as he steps outside with his BOOMSTICK.

Here on the right coast, we have a huge military presence, within a few miles of here. Each branch has several installations. The infrastructure goes for miles.
That’s good and bad.
This area is very strong but is an obvious target.
