No doubt the General Counsels of Apple and Google will recommend following the law even if an executive promises not to enforce it. Though I’m sure they’d make the app available again for 90 days when Trump invokes the one-time 90 day continuance.

    You were warned.

Shame that X didn't show the rest of his tweet when embedded.

"I was a bit surprised to see so many MAGA figures completely reverse their stance on the app, but then I learned a conservative ultra-mega donor (to political campaigns and groups) owns huge stakes in ByteDance. And he is hiring a lot of lobbyists on the right."

Congress was trying very hard to make it difficult to wiggle out of the ban - once it was implemented. Who knows where this is going? Meta has created a presence on Tik Tok - which is annoying the loyal Tik Tok audience. A unknown number - but likely a sizeable one - have deleted their Meta accounts in addition to blocking Meta on Tik Tok. There are a few memes on Tik Tok of people sending messages to their Chinese handlers.

Looking at congress critters who voted NO to the ban - include some strange bedfellows including Marjorie Taylor Greene, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Rand Paul (voted present), Bernie Sanders, Marco Rubio, Rick Scott, J.D. Vance, and Ted Cruz.

What's fun is listening to the number of newscasts saying that Tik Tok is OWNED by the Chinese government. This is one more instance of television journalism (sic?) demonstrating the level of care that it takes to provide accurate information to the public.

@kluurs I think that the Chinese government has the "ultimate" control over Tik Tok, so while they may not publicly have 50%+ of the shares, I think that they do function as the owner and have the power to make "big picture" decisions for the company.
