I think we'll have reached peak magat when someone claims that ivermectin is the cure for vaccine-induced autism.

    Only non-witches get due process.

Yep. If y'all expect actors to be sane, you're just as nuts as they are.

I would say Braveheart and The Patriot are not in that number. Haven’t had the displeasure to warch any of his others.

I will however say his casting and acting in Road Warrior, Gallipoli and the 80s remake of Mutiny on the Bounty were notably well done. Have heard too, that his Hamlet is not too shabby either. Haven’t seen it though.

Look on the bright side. At least he wasn't blaming the Jews for burning down his house.

Well, I'm surprised to hear you don't respect Braveheart. I thought it was a quite effective movie. The Patriot was a weaker variation on the theme, seemed like him chasing the dragon of Braveheart.

You’re not surprised, you’re more likely gobsmacked. Braveheart sucked in screenplay, premise and, in particular, historical continuity.

Maybe I wish I had the capacity to be gobsmacked. But surprised is probably more accurate. And I think the last of your three reasons was probably the most important to your stated opinion.

At crucial times in the story line, less so. In fact, much less so.

I always took it as fiction, "based on a true story".

More like, “very loosley based on a true story”. Same category as Scott’s Kingdom of Heaven the difference being that in Scott’s movie, the main protagonist was from the very outset, a fictitious character.

If you want a fiction based on a true story, I recommend The Battle of Britain or A Bridge too Far or if you want to see Mel Gibson in such a film, definitely watch Gallipoli.

Braveheart is the number 2 soundtrack of all time. Behind Gladiator but just in front of Bourne Supremacy and Insterstellar.

Braveheart reminds me of how Hulu's Catherine the Great tv series is titled - "The Great - An Occasionally True Story".

In Gibson's defense, his remark to Newsom on the fires was, "Spend less on hair gel".

Don’t you think the antisemitic references were a little unsubtle?

I’m reminded of the comedy piece by Steve Martin in the New Yorker when it came out. It was imagined studio notes on the script. Much of it was just general humor ‘the language says Armenian. I assume this is a typo and you meant American?’

But one line was great ‘Just a nitpick, but on page 93 there should be a space between ‘jew’ and ‘boy’.
