President Jimmy Carter served America with distinction throughout his life and Karen and I extend our deepest sympathies to his family along with millions of Americans who admired this truly good and great man. From his service in the @USNavy, as Governor of Georgia and as the 39th President of the United States, Jimmy Carter lived out his Christian faith and values with integrity and devotion. His work on humanitarian causes at home and abroad impacted the lives of millions and will inspire generations. May President Carter Rest in Peace. God Bless Jimmy Carter.

In the late ‘80s and early ‘90s a close friend of mine from grad school was an analyst at CSIS in Washington. She worked closely on one project with Jimmy Carter. She said he was always gracious and showed no pretense towards anyone. She also said that he would always apologetically arrive very early for any meetings and would insist that he be left in the reception area to read quietly until all others arrived and were prepared to begin the meeting. If offered a vacant office to wait he would refuse. Besides being a pleasure to be around he also had a mind and memory like a trap and understood all details the project required of him and the team.
R.I.P. President Carter. A true statesman and decent human being if there ever was one.

I saw Mr. Carter many times when he was president.
I watched him come out the door where Mr. Reagan got shot by John Hinkley. That hotel was a popular place for the president to talk to groups.
My office was across the street on the second floor, it looked right down on the door.
I didn't talk to him or meet him or anything, I just watched him get in the car.
