What bothers me about the trump veterans brouhaha
-
Are the "anonymous sources" telling the truth about Trump disparaging the veterans. That's possibly true.
Are the same sources telling the truth about Trump not wanting to fly there? That's patently false.
So, if they lie about one thing, why should you believe them about the other?
Here's what the Atlantic reported:
-
Yeah, I get it. Trump is a vain, boorish, arrogant SOB.
In my opinion, he really is.
But, how unhinged is this reporting?
"Trump rejected the idea because he feared his hair would become disheveled in the rain..."
And you said that with a straight face. Did the Atlantic's "anonymous" sources say that, or did they just make it up? My guess is the latter.
He's an obnoxious prick, as I said. But if you're going to make ridiculous statements like that, back them up, preferably with names.
BTW: Did the Atlantic report on the next day's ceremonies (too lazy to look it up)?
-
Turley comments:
"The real story this week is not whether Trump or The Atlantic are lying but why either possibility is viewed as equally plausible. The public is left with an incredible tale told by two equally noncredible sources. That is the real story — and a truly sad one."
Yeah....
"Two equally non credible sources..."
Many here will say that Trump lies. Will they have the same opinion of Goldberg and The Atlantic?
-
Yeah, and EVERYONE that points out the obvious still needs to cloak their position now with, "
I am not a racistI think Trump's a jerk, but..."
We have been trained by TDS to always point out something negative, before sticking our toe in the water to carefully and cautiously present a perspective that is not anti-Trump.I wish they would do it.
Could you imagine people, MSM or including forum members prefacing, "Although Trump has done much to be commended for..." before they slam him with innuendo?

We will stipulate his faults. But I think what Atlantic et al does is much worse.

You made the point i was trying to make in my last post, but more eloquently. Since I’ve had considerable wine tonight That could be expected.

You say that as if it's a bad thing...
But, to return to the thread.
Based on the emails, it's obvious that The Atlantic has lied. If you're going to apply the "lie" standard to Trump, apply it to The Atlantic.

@Mik said in What bothers me about the trump veterans brouhaha:
Again, look at his actions. Does he seem like a president who doesn't respect our veterans? I can't see it.
“He’s not a war hero. He was a war hero because he was captured. I like people who weren’t captured.”
—Trump at a Family Leadership Summit in Ames, Iowa@Mik what are your thoughts on the above quote?
-
@Mik said in What bothers me about the trump veterans brouhaha:
Aqua, that was a quote about one man who was constantly slagging him.
Seems like he was referring to anyone who was captured in war.

So you think that quote isn't a valid reason for concern regarding whether or not Trump respects veterans. Why is what he said about McCain okay?
-
I'm not Mik, but my answer would be that it was a not ok thing to say and Trump would be a better President if he didn't say that stuff. But you might note that the observation was in the form of a joke. "Why should I respect POWs? Why shouldn't I respect the ones who didn't get captured?". That sounds a lot like the observation of an edgelord open mic stand up comic. If you want to understand the character of the man who said it, that was the part of his character talking IMO.
-
Aqua. I am more disturbed by a media that is making up the truth because they think it is good for me than a Boris Yeltsin type President. The MSM rarely makes contact with reality any more, it presents its idealized view of what life should look like. Very dystopian and autocratic.

That's my only point. He's not Stalin for saying things like that; that's liberal TDS. Conservative TDS is defending it. So let's just call it a fucked up thing to say and leave it at that.
