Heather McDonald’s take in City Journal.

That’s actually the more traditional conservative take…

Heather Macdonald is a heck of a lot of fun on podcasts. One of my favorite listens.

Regardless of the cause, the remedy demands individual responsibility.

Yeah. The idea that we’ll ban, say, FD&C Yellow #5 and discover the One Weird Trick to cure obesity seems fanciful.

The article has multiple good points, but it boils down to Nancy Reagan philosophy and it's going to take more than that.

Anybody who visits Europe (or even the UK) can see the difference in lifestyle from North America. The amount I used to walk when I lived in Britain to what I do now is a massive factor in determining my current rather rotund body shape.

I don't see how RFK is going to change this. Sure, all European packaged food lists the E-numbers (artificial additives), but compared to the fact that I could and would walk to the shops....?

                  I was only joking

It is mildly amusing that conservatives appear to be supporting legislating away obesity, since personal responsibility clearly doesn't work. I thought that was the liberal way of failing to solve problems.

I don't think you can legislate your way out of this, but what you can do is provide better information for a modern society, untainted by Big Ag. For instance, the Food Pyramid is widely acknowledged to be wrong. Or we're talking about cutting junk food from food stamps, when many of these people don't know how to cook with healthy choices.

It's also amusing considering Trump is morbidly obese.

It seems to me that an addiction to good old fashioned sugar is the source of a lot of America's dietary problems. I can't remember which movie it was, but they essentially said the food industry has managed to convince people that fat is bad, whereas added sugar isn't really a problem. The reality is quite possibly the complete opposite.
