I think Gabbard is a bit light for the job, but I can see going along with it.
Gaetz is a hard "No".
Yeah? Go check out the magats on X. They are ecstatic for Gaetz and are threatening Thune if he doesn’t rubber stamp Gaetz and are threatening any Republican Senators if they don’t vote for him.
The whole coalition falls on this point.
Some knotheads on X are not the whole party. They're not even a small portion of Trump's base.

Wait, does he have to give up his seat before the confirmation?
I don't think so.
This could be a brilliant opportunity.
Maybe it's 6D chess - have Gaetz fail confirmation, after throwing a bone to the crazy end of the GOP. They're satisfied, and he can say, "Look, I tried."
It looks like we both might have been right…

Not cabinet, but Mike Huckabee was just named Ambassador to Israel.
Good choice.
Huckabee’s a very smart guy. He’d have made a good president.

Steve Miller made a pretty astute and funny comment.
I find it amusing that there are two people in charge of the Department of Government Efficiency.
And what’s their combined salary?

You wonder about Vivek’s incentives. Is he better off proposing some cuts that have a chance of passing? Or does he double down on his cutting of 75% of the federal workforce, write a DOA report, but position himself as the serious spending cut guy for 2028?
I know where I’d place my bet.

@Mik My first thougt as well.

Neither.
I think you're going to see a few things:
- 20%- 25% reduction in Federal employees.
- A mandate that agencies do not go outside of Congressional law, piggybacking rules that Congress did not intend.
- A higher emphasis on technology.
- A big cut in Federal aid to states, along with the cessation of unfunded mandates. Think Dept of Ed, for one.
- Some tax policy changes.

I guess something can be astute, funny, and also completely meaningless

If the electorate is in the mood to re-elect Maga in 2028, I see no point in spending his political capital losing to Vance in a primary. He'd be well positioned for a 2036 run at best.
