Sooo, does Trump go to jail?

Why would he leave the country or go to jail? He was doing his job. Pretty SWAMPY to be elected and say one of the first things you do is fire the guy investigating your possible crimes. He should let it play out and prove his innocence.
Lawfare. The country has had enough of it.

Well, they will have more if Gaetz gets approved, and it will become almost expected from here on out.

I'm not sure he gets approved.
By making the nomination, Trump is making a statement, and not a good one. He just lost a fair amount of the good will he had built up.

Don't buy it. Smith was appointed by the AG to investigate Trump's involvement in the Capitol attack as well as mishandling of classified materials (via 2 federal grand jury indictments btw), so it seems Smith was just doing his job. Call me naive, I know, but regardless if this was Obama or Trump... I think it is certainly appropriate to perform a formal investigation into such actions by a President. It keeps the country's leadership accountable, which is important to remain a credible representative democracy.

Ok, you're naive.
Obama had TS documents. Biden had TS documents in rotting boxes in his garage. Trump had some at Mar-a-lago. At least his were under lock and key, lock proscribed by the FBI.
There was a dispute over what Trump could possess. I suspect if it had been any ex-President other than Trump, wouldn't have been a word said about it.
So the FBI conducts a show raid and paws through Melania's panty drawer and Barron's room. You ought to thank your buddies at the FBI for helping him secure the GOP nomination.
And then you can thank your hero, Jack Shit - a cast-out worm if there ever was one - along with Hot Fanny in Atlanta and the James Gang in New York, for a Biden orchestrated simultaneous lawfare blitz, the envy of any banana republic.
And with every charge and with every trial, his poll numbers went up. The American people saw the lawfare for exactly what it was.
If America has any sense, we'll leave that destructive political tactic on the slagheap of history.
I thought Trump was magnanimous in his treatment of Hillary. I suspect he will do the same with Biden. But I fervently hope he reforms the FBI with a vengeance, shaking the department like a terrier shakes a rat. I suspect most of the management deserves it. While he's at it, there's a lot more other Just-us swamp dwellers that need to hit the bricks.
Maybe they can leave their Harris-Walz signs on their front lawns, so they can be identified quicker and appropriate measures can be taken.
Hey, it worked for FEMA...
