Sooo, does Trump go to jail?

You realize that if the NYC case gets withdrawn before sentencing then Trump will not be a convicted felon?

Trump will not be a convicted felon?
I'm pretty sure that will depend on who is speaking.

James made an ass out of herself today.
-
Barr came out today, calling for everything to be dropped and for lawfare as a political tactic to end.

Oh no. If he is referred to as a convicted felon by Joy Reid, I would fully expect him to file suit.

I think for the good of the country, we need to trash Sullivan.

Jack Smith, the special counsel who pursued two federal prosecutions of Donald J. Trump, plans to finish his work and resign along with other members of his team before Mr. Trump takes office in January, people familiar with his plans said.
Mr. Smith’s goal, they said, is to not leave any significant part of his work for others to complete and to get ahead of the president-elect’s promise to fire him within “two seconds” of being sworn in.
Mr. Smith, who since taking office two years ago has operated under the principle that not even a powerful ex-president is above the law, now finds himself on the defensive as he rushes to wind down a pair of complex investigations slowed by the courts and ultimately made moot by Mr. Trump’s electoral victory.
Mr. Smith’s office is still drawing up its plan for how to end the cases, and it is possible that unforeseen circumstances — such as judicial rulings or decisions by other government officials — could alter his intended timeline. But Mr. Smith is trying to finish his work and leave before Mr. Trump returns to power, the people familiar with his plans said.
The election’s outcome spelled the end of the federal cases against Mr. Trump, since Justice Department policy has long held that a sitting president cannot be prosecuted for crimes. A Supreme Court ruling this summer significantly expanded the scope of official presidential conduct that cannot be prosecuted even after leaving office. As he prepares for his last act as special counsel, Mr. Smith’s ultimate audience will not be a jury, but the public.
Department regulations call for him to file a report summarizing his investigation and decisions — a document that may stand as the final accounting from a prosecutor who filed extensive charges against a former president but never got his cases to trial.

Does he stay in the country?

Hell, does he stay out of jail?

Why would he leave the country or go to jail? He was doing his job. Pretty SWAMPY to be elected and say one of the first things you do is fire the guy investigating your possible crimes. He should let it play out and prove his innocence.
Lawfare. The country has had enough of it.

Well, they will have more if Gaetz gets approved, and it will become almost expected from here on out.
-
I'm not sure he gets approved.

By making the nomination, Trump is making a statement, and not a good one. He just lost a fair amount of the good will he had built up.

Don't buy it. Smith was appointed by the AG to investigate Trump's involvement in the Capitol attack as well as mishandling of classified materials (via 2 federal grand jury indictments btw), so it seems Smith was just doing his job. Call me naive, I know, but regardless if this was Obama or Trump... I think it is certainly appropriate to perform a formal investigation into such actions by a President. It keeps the country's leadership accountable, which is important to remain a credible representative democracy.

Ok, you're naive.
Obama had TS documents. Biden had TS documents in rotting boxes in his garage. Trump had some at Mar-a-lago. At least his were under lock and key, lock proscribed by the FBI.
There was a dispute over what Trump could possess. I suspect if it had been any ex-President other than Trump, wouldn't have been a word said about it.
So the FBI conducts a show raid and paws through Melania's panty drawer and Barron's room. You ought to thank your buddies at the FBI for helping him secure the GOP nomination.
And then you can thank your hero, Jack Shit - a cast-out worm if there ever was one - along with Hot Fanny in Atlanta and the James Gang in New York, for a Biden orchestrated simultaneous lawfare blitz, the envy of any banana republic.
And with every charge and with every trial, his poll numbers went up. The American people saw the lawfare for exactly what it was.
If America has any sense, we'll leave that destructive political tactic on the slagheap of history.
I thought Trump was magnanimous in his treatment of Hillary. I suspect he will do the same with Biden. But I fervently hope he reforms the FBI with a vengeance, shaking the department like a terrier shakes a rat. I suspect most of the management deserves it. While he's at it, there's a lot more other Just-us swamp dwellers that need to hit the bricks.
Maybe they can leave their Harris-Walz signs on their front lawns, so they can be identified quicker and appropriate measures can be taken.
Hey, it worked for FEMA...

You know who I was most disappointed in? Garland. He didn't get appointed to SCOTUS, but he had a decent reputation.
Not any more. Might be judged by history as one of the most political AG's to ever hold the office.
