Kill the squirrel

What waws the point of the seizure and subsequent killing? I don't understand. Surely pets are not illegal in NYC.
The squirrel bit the investigator that was holding it. As there are no vaccines for rabies for squirrels, the animal had to be destroyed to be tested for rabies. I don’t get the raccoon at all…

Also, there are ordinances as to what kind of animal you can house.
Squirrels and raccoons are prohibited in NYC.
-
Wonder what that means for the value of P-Nut’s NFTs?

But they were in Chemung County. On the PA border.
Raccoons are illegal throughout the state.
Squirrels need a permit.

Either way, it's a overstep of common sense and abuse of the state's authority.
How long did it take for them to make a decision to snag the squirrel?
How long did it take them to make a decision to raid P Diddy.
Priorities, man!

The squirrel was killed for spite.
I have little doubt that this whole kerfuffle is politically motivated Peanut's owners have said they're not political.
But, as a cudgel to represent overreach of government by petty tyrants, it's a pretty good tool.
Also, Peanut's owner have moved to file suit. No idea what the basis is, but, it'll be fun to watch it play out.
On an unrelated note, our second bird, a Blue-Front Amazon, was named "Peanuts."
