Companies ready price hikes to offset Trump’s global tariff plans

Executives say Americans, not foreign countries, will pay the tariffs.

Across the United States, companies that rely on foreign suppliers are preparing to raise prices in response to the massive import tariffs that former president Donald Trump promises if he wins the election Tuesday.

Producers of a range of items, including clothing, footwear, baby products, auto parts and hardware, say they will pass along the cost of the tariffs to their American customers.

Imagine the relief when Trump loses again.

Makes sense, companies always need to plan ahead. If the cost to import something goes up (the American company pays the tariff, not the foreign supplier), then of course they'll need to raise the price to offset the costs of goods sold (COGS). Unless they patriotically let it cut into their profit margin.

Just wondering. Will the tax hike that Harris proposes cause companies to raise prices?

          Yeppers.

Companies always up prices when the cost of doing business goes up.

Or they wouldn't be in business.

I'd think so. It's a main item on a basic income statement. Sales, COGS, operating expenses, G&A, interest, tax... gives you net income.
