SERIOUS Bourbon Question
-
Pappy Ban Winkle is too pricey and impossible to find. They sell it here by lottery.
I like Evan Williams single barrel offerings.
What store will you be buying at? They might have online listings I could look at.
Woodford Reserve is good.
What’s the upper limit on $$? Easier to stay in a budget.

The single barrel route they talk about here is a great idea. You’ll bet more different whiskies that way.

Hey thanks gentlemen,
As far as price goes, I'm thinking 5-600 for the mix. I usually buy at Winn-Dixie, but for something like this I'll go to Total Wine, I did that for the tequila. I'd like to taste the differences. I got that with the mezcal--you can't tell if it was expensive or not but some of the stuff shure would but hair on your chest. Evan Williams, I see it walzing around on the lower shelves, but hey if it's good it's good! And Woodford. Thanks,

Jim Beam isn't the best, but it is a staple, it is ok with me.
Ironclad is nice, that might just be local here in the Tidewater area
1792 Single Barrel, very nice
Some people say Jack Daniels is Bourbon
Some people say Jack Daniels is not BourbonI like it either way. Sinatra loved it, they named a (n expensive) bottle after him
And as the others said, Knob Creek, Maker's Mark and Woodford are all nice
All of these have been on my shelf

Send her a rye. Similar profile, but less sweet.

I like the ones with a bit more spice. If you can get your hands on Dad’s Hat, I enjoy that. Old Overholt is the classic. If you want something a little smoother but not too sweet, Whistle Pig.

There used to be a bar in Ashburn called the Smokehouse.
The pilots and instructors where I worked would go there once a month.
They had a deal that they called the Bourbon Trail. It was a list of 80 different Bourbons. When you bought one, you checked it off the list. They kept all the scorecards behind the bar, I had one there, but I only had a couple dozen checked off.
If you bought and drank all 80, they would make a License Plate that said whatever the drinker wanted. One of our pilots was the first to hang a plate on the wall, I forget what it said, maybe his children's names.

I saw the above at a recent Costco on a trip. If they have overseas, I am thinking that they probably have it in the US. Not sure if this is what you are looking for.
Anyway, I actually took this picture because I was thinking of you guys. @George-K @Mik @LuFins-Dad @Tom-K @Doctor-Phibes @Jolly @copper et al.

For knock you on your butt, but still has taste, Wild Turkey Rare Breed. 116 proof. I dunno, $50-$60?
Belle Meade is sweet, if you like that. Regular Knob Creek and Maker's Mark are decent everyday bourbons.
But take anything I say with a grain of salt. There are guys here a lot more knowledgeable than I am. I tend to drink bourbon when I have a drink, but I don't drink very often. A bottle will last me for half a year or more.

Or she will enjoy!
