Well that is good. My aunt lives in Venice, FL and her place is 13-feet above sea level. She left for Atlanta, but her husband is riding out the storm. They said they handled Hurricane Ian 2 years ago fine.

We have a board member in Clearwater who is visiting family in Ohio. Her much older husband (he’s maybe 82 she’s maybe 65) is in their house in Clearwater with no plans to evacuate. At least it’s in ‘zone c’ with no mandatory evacuation.

200mph gusts. That's a serious Cat5. She's (screw 'em, all hurricanes are female) probably going to throttle down to a Cat3 at landfall, but I'd keep a very close eye on the surge numbers.

The wife has a first cousin that lives around Tampa. Interestingly enough, they evacuated to Miami.

The one time I evacuated for a hurricane as a kid we went to Tampa. That was David in 1979. They had just started using male names that year.

Funny, I told my Aunt the same thing yesterday. I said... drive 3 hours to Miami, there is no traffic. She decided to go to Atlanta, and it took 12 hours.

While DeSantis has complimented the president's actions, he has taken aim at Vice President Kamala Harris. The Democrats' presidential nominee on Monday - reacting to reports that the governor had refused to take her calls regarding federal storm efforts - described him as "selfish."

When asked about the dispute, DeSantis argued in his "Fox and Friends" interview that "my focus has not been on dealing with Kamala Harris. I saw the news report. I have a good friend in fort Myers. He evacuated for Ian in 2022. The roof of a building on his property was blown off. Got it replaced. Now again the big blow is coming. What a life. Better to have Iranian missles.
