Policy wise, DeSantis is much more conservative than Trump. Plus, he has an excellent policy position of not committing the single largest human rights and civil liberties violations in the history of our nation. So that’s a positive. But if he wasn’t willing to go to the mat against Trump, then he wouldn’t be able to go to the mat now.

If DeSantis had been nominated, would the race be this close?
What do you think? For the thought experiment assume he had Trumps support.
I think mathematically it's simple. He'd have Trump's current numbers, plus conservative never-Trumpers, like me.
-
I think on the other side there are some low propensity voters that love Trump, probably would prefer DeSantis win, but couldn’t be bothered to get out, no?
-
I think there are some only Trumpers that would not have participated title even would have worked against DeSantis because they would be pissed at him for beating Trump.

DeSantis didn’t need to be charismatic, he just needed to not be a pussy. Now the Haitians are going to eat him.
-
As long as we’re asking for honest thoughts, do any Kamala supporters want to address whether the debate was moderated in a fair and impartial manner?

Not many Kamala supporters here, but it was pretty clearly not a fairly moderated debate. At the minimum they should've called out Kamala's BS about Trump and Project 2025 which is one of the easier lies to correct in real time.

I didn't even watch the debate and I don't think it was fairly moderated. This is US national television after all. You chaps all wanted the Wild West, and now you've got it, except with suits and gelled hair.

Seems not. They fact checked Trump several times compared to zero for Harris. And they gave Trump quite a bit more time, though he used it to tank himself.

The funny thing is they don’t need to be biased to make him look like an imbecile, but they don’t seem to get that.
The whole thing resembles a couple of one legged men in an ass kicking contest.

it isn't possible to do fact checking on the fly - and keep a debate moving. Further, even if one candidate lied every time they spoke, it would be unfair to call them out in a debate. If this was a one-on-one interview, it could be appropriate to call them out. It was clear that the moderators were prepared to intervene. It was something that had to have been discussed at the highest levels at ABC. I suspect some of this goes back to the soul searching that was done back in 2016 when the media was criticized for giving Trump tons of free time for all the colorful, if sometimes off-beat, things he said. Still, no place for moderators to challenge. It is fair to bring candidates back to the question that was asked. Candidates want to answer with a prepared script - and sometimes the prepared lines don't fit the question. That may be appropriate though again it requires a moderator trying to be somewhat objective.
