If you haven’t seen this clip that’s been getting renewed interest lately.

I think even someone with no knowledge of the context at all could read this and get the clear stench of a weak case.

The whole reason we call them illegal aliens is because they’re subject to our laws.

Here’s Richard Haass’ initial take on Trump’s special military operation:

The operation captures the essence of Trump’s foreign policy. It was unilateral to its core. It paid little heed to legality or international opinion. It emphasized the Western Hemisphere rather than Europe, the Indo-Pacific, or the Middle East. The goal was commercial benefit, in this case access to oil reserves, and to strengthen homeland security, reflecting concerns over drugs and immigration. Military force was used, but in bounded ways.

The biggest downside of the Venezuela operation could be the precedent it sets, affirming the right of great powers to intervene in their backyards against leaders they deem to be illegitimate or a threat. One can only imagine Russian President Vladimir Putin, who is calling for the “de-Nazification” of Ukraine and the removal of President Volodymyr Zelensky, nodding in agreement. Trump’s military operation in Venezuela makes a negotiated end to the Russia-Ukraine war even more remote than it already was.

Love him or hate him Trump taught Putin how a "special military operation" is done correctly.

You have to wonder if Greenland is next. They have been accused of smuggling in snow to the US.

If it’s not from the champagne region of the Middle East, it’s just sparkling backyard intervention.

I am coming to the conclusion that as the story develops it was less a special military operation and more along the lines of a hostile commercial asset appropriation that just falls shy of a mob style racketeering operation.

              Elbows up!

The good news is we apparently killed 32 Cuban special forces.

People are starting to ask if they were a protection force on loan or an occupation force.

I can honestly see no legality in the action however moral it may be if a Venezuelan elected leader takes control.

                    Meanwhile, Taiwanese consider their doom.

It wouldn’t be legal, though it would be forgivable and defendable if our intentions were anything but pecuniary, which they don’t seem to be.

Cuba is probably next. Maybe this will be Trump’s long term legacy… Gotta give credit to how the military handled the Iran attack and now this operation. It’s like a Tom Clancy novel.

Anyway… clearly I’m no expert but there seems to be limited time before the power vacuum can lead to years of chaos if not careful.

Reuters: Venezuela has issued an emergency decree instructing police to track down and detain anyone suspected of backing the U.S. attacks on the country.

Interesting dynamic. If you can believe Trump, he is running the country now (proxy via the VP chick) so who would give such an order?

You know, 1% of me is enjoying this American Might… remove bad guys, invest in resources, take over Cuba, take over Greenland…. We’ve made big moves before, but it’s been a while…. We don’t have Alaska and Hawaii just because we asked.

Even then we bought Alaska and in the case of most other overseas territories we wrestled them from another colonial power. Never invaded a democracy and took their land before.
