Not sure I agree with the ruling, and am a bit surprised with the ruling, as I would have assumed Montana judges would rule the other way.

Montana’s Supreme Court ruled Wednesday that minors don’t need their parents’ permission to get an abortion in the state – agreeing with a lower court ruling that found the parental consent law violates the privacy clause in the state constitution.

“We conclude that minors, like adults, have a fundamental right to privacy, which includes procreative autonomy and making medical decisions affecting his or her bodily integrity and health in partnership with a chosen health care provider free from governmental interest,” Justice Laurie McKinnon wrote in the unanimous opinion.

I know parental approval is not required for other pregnancy-related surgeries or procedures that a minor might have, but is approval needed for non-pregnancy-related surgeries? Can a 14 year old go into the hospital and ask to have a surgery?

To be clear, the judges are ruling on what the law says, so it makes logical sense. But maybe a law will come about out of this. @taiwan_girl I expect one of your infamous "2 years later" updates when that law goes into effect! 555
