QR Code scams
-
Now, just like a link that I don't know the for sure source, I'd never scan a QR code too. But parking meters and such? Hard to suss out.

That's the thing ... it's very hard to verify if something posted in the public is legit.
Still, I feel quite comfortable scanning QR codes using an app that would simply show me the decoded content (and would not automatically open any link). I don't feel as comfortable doing so with iOS' built-in Camera app because I am not entirely sure Apple/iOS won't try to do any "smart" thing to it without me approving it first.

Do you use such an app? If so, which?
This one I have been using for a few years: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/free-qr-code-reader-simply-to-scan-a-qr-code/id1068766238
It works well, though it seems to have started displaying ads recently (OK by me, no qualm with software developers making a buck). This may become my new favorite: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/qr-pro-easy-qr-code-scanner/id1013912824
Because it can also decode barcodes, no ad, no βin-app purchase,β and the developer says it does not collect any data.
