QR Code scams

Now, just like a link that I don't know the for sure source, I'd never scan a QR code too. But parking meters and such? Hard to suss out.

That's the thing ... it's very hard to verify if something posted in the public is legit.
Still, I feel quite comfortable scanning QR codes using an app that would simply show me the decoded content (and would not automatically open any link). I don't feel as comfortable doing so with iOS' built-in Camera app because I am not entirely sure Apple/iOS won't try to do any "smart" thing to it without me approving it first.

It works well, though it seems to have started displaying ads recently (OK by me, no qualm with software developers making a buck).This may become my new favorite: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/qr-pro-easy-qr-code-scanner/id1013912824
Because it can also decode barcodes, no ad, no “in-app purchase,” and the developer says it does not collect any data.
