"Why I decided to get into politics. I wasn't political until then"

In Walz’s telling, the “folksy” high school teacher and two of his students attended a campaign rally for President George W. Bush as an educational experience. However, Walz says, all three of them were denied entry upon event staffers noticing a John Kerry sticker on one of the students’ wallets — an exchange that the Atlantic dubbed a “KGB-style interrogation.”

There’s just one problem: This version of the political origin story for the Democratic vice presidential nominee, who is already facing “stolen valor” accusations over claims about his military service from combat veterans, contains significant inaccuracies.

For one, Walz was admitted into the Bush rally, according to a source familiar, who insisted on anonymity to discuss the August 2004 event. The two teenagers Walz arrived with, Matt Klaber and Nick Burkhart, were not his students, the Washington Examiner confirmed.

Moreover, the teenagers were barred from the event after a confrontation that made local news earlier in the week — leading to them initially being denied tickets.

And while Walz framed the squabble as the “moment that I decided to run for office” since he had “never been overly involved in political campaigns,” evidence suggests that Walz was already politically active by that point: He participated days earlier in an anti-Bush protest before the 2004 Bush rally in Mankota, Minnesota, on Aug. 4, an image confirms.

More at the link about the students (not his), and their activities.

Bash again asked him whether he misspoke when he said he had carried weapons in war.

“In this case, this was after school shooting, the ideas of carrying these weapons of war,” Walz said. “And my wife, the English teacher, told me my grammar is not always correct.”

        Bad grammar.

Time after time, he embellishes his military history. It's Biden-worthy.

Walz’s motorcade involved in a crash on the way to a campaign stop, with a 'few minor injuries'

Several vehicles in Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz’s motorcade were involved in a minor crash on the way to a campaign stop in Wisconsin on Labor Day, causing some minor injuries, Walz said.

"Some of you might have heard, some of my staff and members of the press that were traveling with us were involved in a traffic accident on the way here today," Walz said at a Monday campaign event following the crash. "We've spoken with the staff. I'm relieved to say that with a few minor injuries, everybody's going to be okay. So thank you."

He added that Vice President Kamala Harris and President Biden, who were campaigning together on Monday, "called to check in, and we certainly appreciate their concern. And I want to express my sincere thanks to the U.S. Secret Service and all the local first responders for their quick reaction to help. So, on behalf of the vice president, myself and our entire campaign, we're grateful for your work today and every day."

Speaking of making shit up. He didn't say the quote you... made up. LOL

Also, he was there in August 1989 (not May), two months after the June massacre which makes sense since he spoke of the massacre in the video clip above in the past tense, "people were very angry we would still go after what happened".

So yes he did go, yes he went after the massacre (which is what he implies) and yes he said May instead of August.

What's remarkable is the Bullshit Meter you're trying to apply to this guy, parsing out a single word in a video from 10 years ago, about an event 35 years ago, which doesn't track given the rest of his statement.... vs Trump who told over 30,000 lies in 4 years and just yesterday was lying about how the President never called the Georgia Governor about Hurricane Helene help, even though the Governor said the complete opposite.

He said "I was in Hong Kong in May of 1989."

                                      0:08

35 years ago? It was seared, seared into his memory. This was not an error or a slip of the tongue. He placed himself there when, in fact, he was there months later.

And yeah my "quote" is an interpretation of what he said. If you want to get particular about what someone actually said vs their intent, that's fine. His point was that he was close to the massacre in May of 1989 - and he wasn't.

As to Trump, feel free to start a "Trump lied" thread.

Not sure this server has the bandwidth to handle 28 lies per day (Trump's average).

He didn't say he was close to the massacre. He said he was in Hong Kong and people were surprised he was there AFTER WHAT HAD HAPPENED, thereby he implied he was there after the massacre (June 1989), so it would make no sense for him to lie about May if he was referring to an observation post-massacre.

“Cry havoc and let slip the DOGE of war!”
