    I used to actually enjoy it a lot. About 60 or so a switch just flipped. Not sure why. I guess 25 years of painting, trenching, remodeling, tearing down and putting up walls, adding exterior doors and rebuilding the deck just used it up. I was a perfectionist then, but no longer.

    @Mik

    I think I know what you mean. I’ve even noticed that my enthusiasm for major projects grows ever dimmer as years pass..

      Sadly I just came in from staining three 8' shoe mouldings. Got a perfect match to what's there now.

      But I hated it. I hated going to Menard's...I hated finding the mouldings (farthest possible corner of the store). Then I hated going to the OTHER farthest corner of the store to find wood stains. I hated the agony of picking the right stain, then schlepping up to the cash register. Then I hated setting up the saw horses. Staining them was hard on the back because my saw horses are just above knee height. But they look great.

      I still hate it.

        Does this mean a new career as a painting contractor is not in the works? 😆

          When we bought the house all of the woodwork, other than the crown moldings, was painted white.

          We spent months stripping paint.

          I woulnd't wish that task on anyone. Well, maybe on some people, but almost not anyone.

                Never say never in a recession.

                Had a first cousin that had a business fail and a divorce at the same time. He was mid-thirties, broke and everything he owned was in the truck.

                And...It was during a recession.

                He started by knocking on doors in carefully chosen subdivisions...One story, brick veneer homes. He told the owner if they bought the paint, he'd paint the house for x dollars and he did the first couple cheap. After that, business picked up and he was soon able to afford a contractor account at Sherwin-Williams.

                He made a good living and sold the biz ten years later...

                  Any trade these days will serve you well. We have an older population that doesn’t want to do these things any more and a younger population that barely knows how to wipe their own ass.

                  Plus you can charge a helluva lot more these days and get it.

                                  Oh wow Mik. It’s all so well coordinated. I love love your countertop. The inset feature tile above the sink balances well beside the microwave. And the stainless steel with the gray. It must’ve taken you forever to choose these colors and stain. Or you’re designer like talented. Really nice!

                                      It's the largest one that will fit in that space. And it is usually pretty full. I had him rebuild the cabinet above it so we can level the fridge. The door now swings open, not shut.

                                        Ha! Nice job on the kitchen, love how it's turning out. We have a double sink and I look forward to the eventual replacement with a big single sink, which we had in Virginia (you are right, it was great for the baby baths, too). The pull-out trash drawer might be your biggest win if it's where you prep. Great floors too. And my wife also likes to buy foods or gadgets to try and then forget about them... it's a sensitive subject where I'd do a purge this afternoon if I know it wouldn't cause me to convince her why half the stuff in the pantry and kitchen drawers aren't used (nor will be), so I'm jealous of your purge!
