    If you don't have A/C you need an attic fan. That's what we grew up with and they are great.

    Had one of those. They do help. Pulls a lot of dust into the house, though.

      When I was growing up you opened a window in the summer months. You had to be careful not to leave it open for too long in case you got hypothermia.

      I was only joking

        What was the average summer temperature there? Humidity?

          Typically about 60 degrees, with 120% humidity if I remember correctly.

          You could get mid 80's, maybe somewhat hotter nowadays. The real problem is when it gets really hot, nothing's designed for it. The same if it got really cold. I had a Canadian friend who said she'd never been as cold as when she visited Leeds.

          I was only joking

            When Mrs. George and I stayed in Cannon Beach, our hotel did not have air conditioning. Of course, it was literally on the Pacific Coast (on the beach) and there was no need. We were never uncomfortable during our two stays there.

              My daughter is headed for Portland and Cannon next month. Can’t wait to see what she thinks.

                Where's she staying? We stayed at the Hallmark Inn twice. Loved it.

                  @Tom-K I don’t even remember that PM.
                  @Horace I’ve multiple fans & a 1400 BTU portable A/C unit in 1 place ; the other place is better with a whole house unit. They kind of lull me to sleep at night. They mess with my incoming cell calls for some reason.

                    Don’t know yet. Not sure they will overnight there or go back to Portland.

                      Same here. No A/C growing up, although we got some window units when I was high school I think? I think as a kid I wasn't as sensitive to temperature. Fan... window...
