There sure doesn’t seem to be much this year. I didn’t even realize that they start tomorrow. There used to be so much anticipation and buildup for the games, but this year there’s been nothing. Is it because there’s an election this year? (Hint, there’s an election every Olympics). Is it Israel and Ukraine? The economic concerns? Or is it just the shape of media? Since all your adds are catered for your personal interests, my feeds are full of ads about kids camps, musical events, football stuff, and politics that I don’t see much of the Olympics stuff.

    If it’s the last, then that’s a shame and a problem…

Oh well, who’s excited for the games?

I'm completely unexcited, but I was never very excited but for certain events. Like when the NBA started participating, or when Carl Lewis or Usaine Bolt were running. Never cared about swimming or gynmastics, which are the big draws.

As for less media attention, I suspect existential threat narratives and the other shenanigans going on in this election, tend to consume attention.

      Education is extremely important.

A good friend and his son are there for them, so I'm hearing a bit more. I've seen a fair amount of media coverage.

We record on DVR the Olympics each time. In past years it's taken my wife and I like 4-5 weeks to watch it all, avoiding spoilers, too. Not just prime time coverage but the other channels and rare events, such as canoeing, or trampolining. It's fun to watch all the sports including the well known ones, of course, like swimming, track, and gymnastics. Same with winter olympics.

This year we are just going to record the prime time shows, since we barely have any free time as it is...

All of that being said... we love watching the Olympics, obviously, but agree I barely realized it starts tomorrow. Sadly I think maybe it's because the media landscape has changed... even for a 30 second video, people will skip ahead to what they want. The attention span to sit and watch olympics on TV isn't there the way it used to be?

            @89th Agree.

I also think that things are more "accessible" all the time. (Generic) you can find any sport that is being broadcast, where before, it was more difficult to see them.

I have to admit I lost interest in the Olympics years ago. There's nothing to wake you up to how partisan TV shows are as watching sporting events in another country. The funniest part of that is that I honestly never realised it when I lived in the UK.

              I was only joking

We watch a few things - some of the track finals, marathon, cycling, some gymnastics - but kinda hoping the US WNBA lose as they seem to be stupidly led and frankly wouldn't mind if the current NBA "Dream Team" that barely beat South Sudan - loses as well - as there's been a bunch of nonsense that this is supposedly a better team than the "real" Dream Team.

I've pretty much lost all interest.

I enjoyed it more when it was all "amateur," even with the knowledge that Soviet, Chinese, and East German athletes were anything but.

The saying, "Lite is just one damn thing after another," is a gross understatement. The damn things overlap.

Put the 2024 Olympics in your YouTube TV library.

I believe that will allow you to play back all Olympic coverage.

If I understand it, it is like recording all broadcast coverage.

It sounds like this could be a potential s***-show, literally!

People are threatening to poo in the Seine https://www.insidethegames.biz/articles/1146971/parisians-threaten-poop-in-the-seine

Climate activists are planning something, you have fake Hamas terror videos from Russia, real terror threats against the Israeli team from multiple terror organizations, and whoever set those fires on the train tracks this morning. This is going to be something else…
