That’s like climbing Mt Rainier on your bike, starting at sea level. And then adding another 1500 ft for good measure.

And thendoing it 21 times in less than a month

16,000 feet elevation at 23 mph. Unbelievable.
I'm thinking that calory estimate might be a bit on the low side.

You’re forgetting he weighs 90lbs and 70 of those are leg muscles.

I believe they burn on average 6000 per stage, and 8000 on the mountain stages. That's almost as much as I eat per day over Christmas.

I struggle to average 30mph on my drive in to work

That’s not me, to be clear. That’s the current Tour de France champion on a random training ride.
No mortal is averaging 30mph on a century ride. None.
I mean, unless the whole fucking thing is downhill. A steep downhill.

Ah okay! LOL. Still a good job however.

Back in my triathlon days, I remember I would get up to 35 mph on a downhill and it felt incredibly fast and dangerous.
Another great story from 89th!

On one particularly long and steep downhill on a century run - back in the day - I was passing cars - and it was a 50 mph speed limit. I was TERRIFIED thinking that almost anything on the road or any mishap would send my splattered for a long distance. I kinda decided to avoid doing that kind of speed on hills after that. Once you're past warp 10, there's nothing to be done - even touching the brakes would be quite dangerous.
