      Reminds me a little of the guy who walked across the whole world and he said Kurdistan (I think?) had the most beautiful scenery.

        @kluurs fantastic.

        Beautiful, weird and kind of disturbing.

        The saying, "Lite is just one damn thing after another," is a gross understatement. The damn things overlap.

          Been there twice in the 1990s. Creepy place; a police state that made Brezhnev’s USSR feel like a tourist resort. Pictures and slogans glorifying the then President/Tyrant, Niyazov, everywhere.

          Food in restaurants was toxic.

          Customs officials tried to shake you down upon entry and exit for any items in your baggage that caught their eye.

          I recall that culvert covers were often missing in the streets and sidewalks in Ashgabat. As there few street lights, you had to be very careful walking back to the hotel after dark for fear of falling into a storm sewer.

          Probably the worst former Soviet republic I visited along with Azerbaijan at the time.

          Elbows up!

            Such a cool video of a wild place! I think Sarah Blueparrot has been there. I know she's been to Uzbekistan and I think Tajikistan.
