    Anacronym.

An anacronym is an acronym which has been used to commonly that it becomes a word on its own.

    Ex:

    Self Contained Underwater Breathing Apparatus
    Zone Improvement Plan
Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation

"Now look here, you Baltic gas passer... " - Mik, 6/14/08

The saying, "Lite is just one damn thing after another," is a gross understatement. The damn things overlap.

I'm glad that "anacronym" is an anacronym.

I've also heard of backronyms, which is where a company or organization makes up a title to fit into a cool acronym. I guess WTF (Well Tempered Forum) is a good example. πŸ˜‰

              My coinage, by the way.

The whole reason we call them illegal aliens is because they’re subject to our laws.

jon do you have reason to believe that your independent invention of the word is where widespread usage sprouted from?

                  Education is extremely important.

                    Well-tempered forum was mine.

I should have removed the bold on backronym.
