    Anacronym.

An anacronym is an acronym which has been used to commonly that it becomes a word on its own.

    Ex:

    Self Contained Underwater Breathing Apparatus
    Zone Improvement Plan
Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation

"Now look here, you Baltic gas passer... " - Mik, 6/14/08

The saying, "Lite is just one damn thing after another," is a gross understatement. The damn things overlap.

I'm glad that "anacronym" is an anacronym.

I've also heard of backronyms, which is where a company or organization makes up a title to fit into a cool acronym. I guess WTF (Well Tempered Forum) is a good example. 😉

jon do you have reason to believe that your independent invention of the word is where widespread usage sprouted from?

                  Education is extremely important.

                    Well-tempered forum was mine.

I should have removed the bold on backronym.
