I agree with 89 on a broader point - Trump just doesn't get what America is and how it's able to work. I think he has excellent instincts on what it should feel like to be an American.
That's not enough. He gets into situations that undermine the republic and he's way too self absorbed to care.
He also brings out the worst in the opposition. That's kind of not his fault - but we should all know better.

As for how it works...Trump put more real dollars in American pockets during his first three years in office, than had been done in decades. Low taxes, a friendly business climate, a less intrusive government...That isn't what makes America work better?

(and no, no, no, it is not possible to erase the last year and blame it on COVID. A person is either President or not, and what happens as president you have to take responsibility for it, you cannot only take things that work in your favor. It would be the same if ignoring the first X months of inflation under President Biden because it was created by President Trump. If that is the case, President Biden has done a great job in reducing inflation.)

The economy lost 2.9 million jobs. The unemployment rate increased by 1.6 percentage points to 6.3%.
Paychecks grew faster than inflation. Average weekly earnings for all workers were up 8.7% after inflation.
After-tax corporate profits went up, and the stock market set new records. The S&P 500 index rose 67.8%.
The international trade deficit Trump promised to reduce went up. The U.S. trade deficit in goods and services in 2020 was the highest since 2008 and increased 40.5% from 2016.
The number of people lacking health insurance rose by 3 million.
The federal debt held by the public went up, from $14.4 trillion to $21.6 trillion.

Common sense is sometimes a rare commodity. COVID was real and its impact cannot be denied. It's why I give Biden a pass on his first stimulus bill.

Agree 100%. But..... if you (as president) are going to claim credit for things that occured during your term which had little to do with your policies, then you have to take the blame for things also.
The same arguement could be said that the foundation of the economic problems were in place when President Biden became president are resulting in the economic problems we are having now.
