I have finally at long last broken my books out of self-storage jail.
First, had to find the parts to the bookshelves.
Then had to go to Ace to pick up parts for a plan B since the parts were defective and IKEA (yeah that's right) issued a recall on the damn things.
Then had to assemble the bookshelves.
Then had to rent a UHAUL, drive to the storage unit, throw the books in the truck along with the shelves, drive back, drop off the crap in the middle of a torrential downpour, bring the truck back, then unbox everything, organize everything and put 'em up on the shelves.
By my count, there are 21 of these I've yet to read. Yes, that's a flex. Getting a master's in poetry has to have its compensations.
Quick note about that second bookshelf (other than the Christmas decorations that are still up, which are still up because our daughter likes 'em and I do, too): one of my dad's co-workers built it. He was a carpenter. So it's pretty freaking heavy but it's rock solid. I believe it's the sturdiest piece of furniture we have.

Was TG’s thread the final catalyst?

lol no, this was in the works a little before that. But they were gouging me.
Some cool stuff:
@George-K is gonna know what's up with that last one.
This one was from 1900:

Satisfying, eh ?
But can I ask why the first bookshelf on the left is different?
That was my working shelf prior to getting the other ones more or less out of hock. This whole affair ended up taking about 9 hours and I was just too tired to tackle that bastard. However, it's a little different anyway since it's where all the notebooks are. So, it's still a "working shelf" as it contains a lot of the crap I use on the regular.
Also, you may notice that the socially acceptable stuff is on the other bookshelf, where visitors may conceivably notice them but all the really weird/cool shit is in our room.

I like the second shelf. I noticed the builder used one-by stuff set in dados. I'm curious about the double thickness on some shelves...Are those for adjustable shelves?
Oh, the castors are neat, too.

We’ve been going through a bit of “moving in” ourselves! Finally installed a lot of shelves around the house to get the boxes of curios and Knickknacks up. I cleared out the room that will be our secondary media room (read ManCave), painted, and I mounted the TV last night. We also have started getting more pictures hung and are converting several older ones to PDF and are getting a few digital frames to alternate the pictures… Starting to settle in after 9 years…

Good eye, they are indeed!

I hate this adulting shit of not being able to live out of one room. I'd still do it were it not for the family revolt I'd have on my hands.

Karla was asking me how I am adjusting to having the kittens. I said the kittens are great, but it’s the new additional stuff we need to have in the house… We finally start decluttering, opening up space, and now we add in multiple cat trees, big honking litterboxes, and other new stuff to keep the kitties happy.

@Aqua-Letifer - Very cool, bro

Yeah, we have the same issue with grandkids....

The cats have more furniture (and bathroom privacy) than I do…

I like it @Aqua-Letifer
Books are great!

Thanks! And I agree and then some. They're necessary.

I dunno what you're talking about with that second one. I often race to the bathroom only to find that one of them beat me in there so you know what? Buddy system, kitty, I gotta go and I'm bigger than you.
We talk in the bathroom sometimes.

You’ve an impressive collection Aqua!
Thanks, blondie! I didn't really work at it with any intention, I just... never got rid of any books. And the way things are going now, I'm glad I didn't.

@Aqua-Letifer You inspire me Aqua. I’ve been downsizing for years now, but have this little remaining collection of books from my dad. Early prairie homesteading, farming, ranching stuff. I’ve no one to leave these books to, have been looking for a small town museum or something similar, but ya know, I might just keep them. They don’t take up a lot of space. I like that they’re from my dad and his dad & grandpa before him.
