I wonder if Home Depot will learn its lesson

Home Depot has some irrational shipping costs. We're buying mulch to cover our garden beds, and needed 30 bags. 6 bags shipping costs $9, while 7 bags shipping costs $35. 30 bags costs $80. Shipping cost per bag minimizes at 6. So I placed five orders of 6 each, all of which will be delivered tomorrow. I feel sort of bad for the delivery drivers. But not for home depot - as they are an oppressive capitalist mega-corporation.

It will be mildly interesting to see if their logistics are up to the task of loading all the orders into the same truck to be delivered in the same trip. But I won't add that to the Mildly Interesting thread, as that is an oppressive capitalist mega-thread.

Plot twist, Home Depot called me and asked if I meant to make five identical orders. Like a person caught for a crime and in jail, I couldn't help but brag about it. So rather than do the smart thing and just tell him yes, it was intentional, I also told him my shameful reasoning. He said "okaaaay", one of those drawn out "okaaaay"s where his voice raised at the end, then put me on hold. Then I got disconnected a minute later.

We needed 75 bags of mulch so I paid the $80 flat delivery fee and added a bunch of other heavy shit, including 500 pounds of sand, 300 pounds of river rock, 400 pounds of salt (for the softener), an A-frame ladder, and a 22-foot extension ladder. Anyway... flat fee FTW, I got all of that delivered. Joke was on me as I had to manually move it from the driveway to the backyard and other places, which my back thanked me for the next morning.

I’ve never ordered mulch in bags. I just call a mulch company and they truck it and dump it, spread it, or spray it, whatever my preference. Is it cheaper to go to Home Depot?

Houston is a mecca for pickups. I just spec'd out a F-150 XLT Super Crew ... Naturally aspirated 5.0 Coyote V8, 2WD, 10 speed tranny with with limited slip rear axle, mid-level option package, chrome wheels and bumpers. Specified the color Atlas Blue Metallic.

Good mid-level truck.

Truck is $53,815 before negotiation, in Houston.

We add northern white cedar mulch throughout our backyard every 3 years, that's a dump and spread job I'll hire for, definitely. The front/side need regular brown mulch, it's about $2 per bag (2 cubic feet) so about $125... yes lots of plastic bags, which I feel slightly bad about until I realize I live in Minnesota and any global warming caused by plastic waste will only increase my property value.

Our lawn guy offered to do the whole job from supplying the mulch to putting it down, but last time we did that, the mulch grew mushrooms immediately and they were everywhere. Slime molds too. My wife was displeased. So now we're supplying the mulch and the lawn guy will put it down for $150.
