A franchise pays for itself over time, as the owner eats there for free.

The manager and shift managers do, too. At least at the ones around here.

That means Ax's math is a bit off.

At $5 per meal and three meals a day, the owner has to eat 200,000 meals, about 182 years of “free” meals, to get to “$1 million” to “break even.”

As the owner, you are free to set the prices. You can eat a $10000 meal three times a day.

I must be the only one here who's taken Modern Monetary Theory courses at university. Education is extremely important.

It would be nice if McDonalds employees could afford to eat at McDonalds…

But… This leads to practical/ethical questions that should probably be in it’s own thread.

How are there still websites like this in 2024? This reminds me of 1998. The areas in yellow are article contents as you scroll along, everything else is an ad.

Both of you can get off my lawn. I started using the Web using Mosaic.

                And Gopher before that.

I used Mosaic (early/mid 90s?) briefly but otherwise... my gut says the ads (especially pop-up ads) got crazy from like 1998 to 2004 until they began to settle down... but lately news websites like this are 99% clickbait farms.

And you can't read the story without disabling your ad-blocker.

                    Nope. Not gonna.
