The Karen Read Murder Trial

Holy crap - that was less than 5 miles from where I work.
-
Chief investigator is a friend of the guy who owns the house. He texts friend that he's looking thru Read's phone looking for selfie-nudes.
The marks on the victims arm - dog bites? There was a dog at the house. Conveniently, the dog was "re-homed" about a month after the incident.
No red polycarbonate (tail light plastic) found at the scene when the incident occurred. Then, about 3" of snowfall. Polycarbonate found ON TOP of snow the next day.
Investigator cop's impound of car is off by 90 minutes between when he SAYS he took possession and when the log shows car was taken. He was in possession for 90 minutes with no accountability.
Blood found at scene was collected in red solo cups and put into a Stop & Shop bag for analysis.
Cop at whose house this occurred made phone call to friend at about 2:30 AM. He claims it was a "butt dial" because he sleeps with his phone in bed. How do you "butt dial" an iPhone? His friend, coincidentally wiped his phone as well.
So. Much. Crap.

I'm watching this trial live as it happens. Truly fascinating.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Killing_of_John_O'Keefe
Basically, Karen Read, girlfriend of a Canton MA cop is accused of killing him by backing her car into him after a fight, breaking the tail light on her Lexus SUV.
He wanted to attend a late night party at another cop's house, and she didn't. Words were exchanged, and she left. She goes home. Drunkeness and cops behaving badly ensue at the house. Read's boyfriend's body is found on the front lawn of the house.
Read awakens, finds boyfriend not at home. Returns to scene where she allegedly says "I hit him!"
Defense says it's all a cover-up and she's framed.
Problems
- you can't break a tail light by hitting a person, unless it's at speed.
- Nest cam at Reads apartment show her backing up and touching another car - at the exact same spot where Commonwealth claims she hit bf.
- autopsy photos show mutiple scratch - bite marks on arm and defensive wounds on hand
- homeowner of site deleted all data and reset his phone ONE DAY before being issued an order to protect the phone.
Much much more that's shady. We're now 2 weeks into the trial, and the defense STILL hasn't put their case up, and the Commonwealth STILL hasn't provided evidence of how the bf died, expert witnesses, etc.
Totally into this case.
Autopsy photos - does this look like a car hit the cop?
***autopsy pics, blood and gore***
click to showThat's not blunt tauma from a car.

It would appear that there's a bunch of folk who should be going to jail here. It's a little hard to see how it could be otherwise, but I've seen the reports that Reed's behaviour has been pretty weird too, smiling and waving.

Unspoken during the trial (to shield the jury) is the fact that there is also a federal investigation that's concurrent. There has been a federal grand jury seated investigating - we don't know what.
But, the defense's job is not to indict the families, cops, etc. It's to plant reasonable doubt about Read's guilt. IMO, they've done that. As to the other stuff, we'll see what happens.
The whole situation is SO incestuous with regard to families, law enforcement that there's little doubt in my mind that there's some shady shit going on.
Chris Albert owns the bar where they were drinking before going to Brian Albert's house. Proctor is the guy assigned to the investigation, at first.
Everybody knows everybody.
Also, of note, when the body was discovered, at 3 AM or so, the scene at Brian Albert's house (the butt-dialer) was filled with ambulances, fire trucks, police cars all flashing lights. Albert never left his house to see what was going on. If that were your house at 3AM with a large police presence on your front lawn, wouldn't you want to see what was going on?

Let's just hope the jury isn't entirely made up friends and relatives of the local constabulary.
I know a few people around here who are in 'police families'. There's a few interesting stories - and those are just the ones they tell publicly.

The other issue is that there's testimony that everyone always considered Read an "outsider." She was one of the few not associated with the police.

(It is a guilty pleasure of me that I like this stuff. LOL)

Sister of the guy who owns the house where the dead cop was found.
12:41:10 AM she calls the dead cop - no answer. She deletes the call
12:41:49 AM she calls the dead cop - no answer. She deletes the call
12:42 she texts "Where are u"
12:43:19 AM she calls the dead cop - no answer. She deletes the call
12:43:59 AM she calls the dead cop - no answer. She deletes the call
12:45:19 AM she texts "hello"She calls (and deletes) three more times in the next 5 minutes.
1:00 All guests leave house other than the sister, who leaves at 1:47 AM
2:12 she arrives at home
2:27 she does an internet search for "hos (sic) long to die in cold."
4:52 AM girlfriend of dead cop find he has not arrived at home. 10 min later she calls sister of owner of property.
6:02 girlfriend and sister arrive to find dead cop on front lawn.
Just amazing.
The state is claiming that the girlfriend killed the boyfriend by backing into him with her car after a fight.
Missing at the scene of the supposed "murder" is one of the cop's shoes.

By the way, is it possible to "butt-dial" a smartphone?
Yes. Not sure how it happens, but it has happened to me before.

One of the witnesses claims that he fell asleep with his phone (ahem) in his bed, and then butt-dialed a friend.
-
@George-K Have you followed on the sage with “turtle boy” Aiden Kearney? Blogger covering the case, and subsequently indicted on charges of witness intimidation based on his twitter posts about the case.
This whole thing is so over the top crooked, it’s feels like a bad movie.
-
@Rich only peripherally.
I know that Kearney ("Turtleboy") was prevented from being in the courtroom when certain
conspiratorswitnesses were there, but I wasn't aware that he had been indicted. This is just a crazy crazy case.
We are now 15 days into the trail (3 weeks) and it STILL has not been alleged how the cop was killed.
No medical examiner, no expert witnesses...nothign.
Best summary I've read of what might have happened.
The McAlberts (Brian and Chris Albert - homeowner of "after-party" location, and Jennifer McCabe - sister) probably knocked John O'Keefe (dead cop) unconscious after a brawl, realized that he may be comatose from the blunt-force trauma to his head, so, instead of trying to save his life, they dragged and dumped his LIVING body outside the house on the front lawn, while he still breathing, shortly after that they Googled: "hos long to die in the cold" to gather intel as to how much time needs to elapse for John to stop breathing from hypothermia. They spent the night getting everyone's story straight in anticipation of the cops. It's possible that the McAlberts were so mellow and even-keeled because they were all exhausted and were severely lacking in sleep, plus they were all hyper-stressed due to having to deal with a death on their hands.

Unbelievable stuff today.
The friend of the brother of the guy whose house this occurred at testified. On the chart, his name is Higgins.
The amazing things
- coincidentally he deleted and destroyed his cellphone the day before an order to maintain the phone was delivered.
- coincidentally his buddy, Brian Albert, deleted HIS cellphone the exact same day, the day before the order to protect was delivered.
- he "butt dialed" Brian at 2 AM. Although he sleeps with his phone on a nightstand.
- he spent 5 hours at the police station doing "administrative work the next day, when he was not on duty
- he was at the station when the defendants car was delivered (after another cop - Proctor - was in possession of it for 90 unaccounted-for minutes)
- surveillance video at the station of the car's delivery is ... missing
- he contacted his friend an FBI agent to help him delete selected texts and messages from his phone (using Federal resources - it was done in the ATF building - for personal purposes is a felony)
And all this shit is coming out under cross examination by the defense. We are still in the Commonwealth's stage of the trial. Defense has yet to call a witness. Commonwealth has called about 45 so far.
