A significant percentage of young women are now on psychotropic drugs.
There was a time that a significant percentage of Western women - single, married and widowed - were on laudanum. It was cheaper than booze and readily accessible.
Only the sophistication and regulation of the substances has changed since those days.

So can you, asshole.
I could, but I'm not going to. The idea that children born to surrogacy are somehow contributing to the global malaise and moral decline of the world is pretty fucking stupid. The fact that you appear to sympathise with his position doesn't automatically make it any less so.
No, some people have belief systems and principles. Can't say boo-shit about Muslims around here without you taking up for them, so I don't mind taking up for this guy.
He believes like very traditional Catholics do, that IVF, abortion, etc., all interfere with God's normal gifts of life. Maybe some people are not naturally going to conceive...Maybe that's God's Will. Maybe they adopt some unwanted child and try to give it a loving home.
So you may not agree with his belief, but it's far from a fuck off.
It’s also how same sex couples are getting children, which may be also what he was getting at.
Bingo. Surrogacy has become a very contentious subject recently, primarily dealing with same sex couples.

If he wanted to attack the gays, then he should just attack the gays. There's plenty of straight couples who've used surrogacy.
Anyway, it's probably not worth me getting too upset about. Just another know-it-all celebrity pontificating about things outside his area of expertise.

@Renauda said in Butker calls it out.:
How is it that surrogacy - other than gay couples - itself is considered anathema among the faithful?
Pope Francis:
“I deem deplorable the practice of so-called surrogate motherhood, which represents a grave violation of the dignity of the woman and the child, based on the exploitation of situations of the mother’s material needs.”
You could argue that doing it for money is going to lead to abuse, but it's more complex than that. I know somebody whose sister carried her baby on her behalf. There was no money involved.

Yes but he’s not some low IQ artist, actor, writer or musician. Rather he’s a professional athlete, specifically an All Star American football player, a modern day Maximus Decimus. A genuine crowd pleaser.

I’d rather have laudanum.

Yes I have heard that statement from the Bishop of Rome. Still doesn’t tell what immoral about it.
It too have a friend whose sister acted as surrogate. The family were staunch RCs.

He's getting trashed on Tik Tok (younger crowd) primarily for encouraging women to quit the workforce and be moms at a commencement ceremony. It was pointed out that he has quite a nice home with 2 kitchens - and seems tone deaf when most Americans can't survive on a single salary. He was also beaten up a bit for what some felt were unnecessary attacks against the gay community. This and the Met Gala are hot topics right now with the villagers wanting to storm the castle and cancel elite rich people flaunting privilege while people are struggling
through Biden's robust economy. Here’s the thing, there is very much a chicken/egg thing here. As more women entered the workplace in the 70s and 80s, there was a significant increase in the labor pool, suppressing wages. The suppressed wages forces families where the mother doesn’t want to be in the workforce into the labor pool by necessity. Now it’s generally accepted that families require two incomes.
If a sizeable portion of women chose to leave or not enter the workforce, then labor rates would have to rise as employers would have to be more competitive for qualified candidates.

That's funny.
When I read JDs post about pontificating, I thought he was talking about himself. Now I see the ambiguity.

True, I know bugger all about American football, other than it has four downs not three. I do know however a tiny bit about the popularity of the Russell Crowe character in Gladiator. Sorry to learn that you see the ambiguity. Do you hear voices too? If so, you may want to have those checked out by a professional..

It's nice to know that I'm a celebrity in your head. I have some memorabilia for sale if you're interested. Only slightly soiled.

From his speech
I can tell you that my beautiful wife Isabelle would be the first to say that her life truly started when she began living her vocation as a wife and as a mother.

I just think it is weird to say that her life only started once she got married and had kids.
Dont Catholics believe that life starts at conception? So is he okay with abortion until someone gets married and has kids?
