President Carter nearing the end
-
Certainly the one to have the most effective and impactful life after his Presidency, at least.
-
I have one life and one chance to make it count for something . . . I'm free to choose what that something is, and the something I've chosen is my faith. Now, my faith goes beyond theology and religion and requires considerable work and effort. My faith demands -- this is not optional -- my faith demands that I do whatever I can, wherever I am, whenever I can, for as long as I can with whatever I have to try to make a difference.
He sure lived up to that.

As Jimmy Carter nears his 16th month in hospice care at his home in Plains, Georgia, his grandson, Jason Carter, says there’s “really been no change” in the former president’s condition.
Jason, 48, the oldest of Jimmy and Rosalynn’s 22 grandchildren, told Southern Living Wednesday that the 99 year old is simply “experiencing the world as best he can as he continues through this process” without his wife of 77 years by his side.
“After 77 years of marriage… I just think none of us really understand what it’s like for him right now,” Jason says. “We have to embrace that fact, that there’s things about the spirit that you just can’t understand.”
At this point, Jimmy isn’t awake every day. Jason says his aunt and uncles visit frequently, though they never know what kind of day their father is going to have.

While the former President entered hospice care in February 2023, his grandson Jason Carter recently shared the 99-year-old—the longest-living President in U.S. history—is “doing okay” as he approaches his milestone 100th birthday Oct. 1.
“I mean he’s been in hospice for over 19 months now and he has really physically diminished and can’t do much on his own,” Jason told People Sept. 17, “but he is emotionally engaged and still having experiences and laughing, loving.”

He would have a pianist flown in every year for his birthday. We would supply a D for the concert at his church. I had to drive down from Atlanta to Plains to take care of the paperwork. He showed up in a softball uniform. Apparently he and his secret service detail would play a game against the high school baseball team every year, too. That was 20 years ago, so he had to have been 80, and was still playing.

I just heard from the manager of the Atlanta showroom, they are shipping a D to the HS in Plains, GA today, and David Osborne has flown in to perform for his 100th birthday…

That’s actually not the event for today. That was recorded in Atlanta about a month ago. The concert today is in Plains and is just for him and the maybe 3K people living in Plains.
