She put that dog into situations that she knew it wasn’t going to be able to handle and then she killed it when it lived up to her expectations. Stupid Bitch.

Yeah, that's pretty much it. Just what we need advising Trump. Luckily, he's a really stable genius.

    I was only joking

Well hating the animal is a step too far. Everything else might be defensible.

I think making killing a dog a good metaphor for being a good politician is a little too on the nose.

On my part I just don’t get what point she is trying to make by telling the story in the first place. All I can say is that she should have kept her dog leashed when visiting someone’s farm, especially a dog known to be excitable, misbehaved and difficult to train. There are professionals out there who can help in such instances.

Frankly, if I were to meet someone and they would tell me that story, I would think that person to be an idiot who had no business owing a dog (or a firearm) in the first place.

I mean, yeah, that's what I find fascinating, too. She actually thought this was not only an example of good character, but so good she'd put it in a book to boast about herself. But, like I said: politician.

Stuff happens with dogs and I’m no absolutist that bad dogs have bad owners. Back when he was in China, my wife’s dog killed some chickens after wrenching his leash from her grip. He’s also bitten her when she’s gotten overconfident about her ability to grab something from him. She took him to dog school when he was young and has always treated him dotingly. But Malamutes are not always the most civilized dogs.

                Education is extremely important.

What’s even more nuts is that she feels the need to explain herself in addition to promoting her book.

Like George already said she ought to know that sometimes it’s just better to shoot, shovel and shut up about past deeds.

She hated the dog. She took the untrained/excitable dog hunting - threw it into a overstimulating situation with a bunch of other dogs and birds - in a shock collar - and it “wrecked” the hunt. She stopped at the neighbors the same day, somehow the dog got out of the truck (hard to “escape” a truck without help from an human) and it killed some chickens. She was likely mad and embarrassed and so then she goes home the very same day and shoots the dog. And also shoots the farm goat? She’s got some pretty big issues. And she has no fucking business owning animals. Not all animals are suitable for the jobs we think they are bred to do. Especially if you do a shit job of training/preparing them. That doesn’t mean you get to shoot them when they act like the animals they are. It’s not a dog’s fault when it kills livestock. That is all on the owner. It’s absolutely the responsibility of a dog owner make sure that the dog doesn’t get into a situation where it can kill livestock. If your dog can’t behave off leash, then keep it on a damned leash. I totally get that sometimes the most humane way to deal with a “dangerous” (domesticated) animal is euthanasia (sadly most of those have been messed up by humans due to poor training, neglect or abuse, and they react aggressively out of fear, and are just trying to survive the only way they know how) but I just don’t see how that is the case here. This was a young dog that likely could have lived a good life with a different owner. She really sucks. I hope she never lives this down.

At the very least she ought to know what deeds to talk about and what not to. Killing the inconvenient creature you took on falls in the not list.

Where in Montana? I have lost family there on my mother’s side. Her mother was born in a little town - then in 1885, an Irish settlement - called Laurin just outside Virginia City. It is now a ghost town, although the big brick RC Church still appeared to be working when I visited there in about 2005. Like going back in time.

What’s even more nuts is that she feels the need to explain herself in addition to promoting her book.

Like George already said she ought to know that sometimes it’s just better to shoot, shovel and shut up about past deeds.

At the very least she ought to know what deeds to talk about and what not to. Killing the inconvenient creature you took on falls in the not list.

For some reason saying she hates the animal was what stuck out as the most important personal failure of the whole situation.

                                          Education is extremely important.
