Wow, the thread got me curious so I looked a few things up.
Housing is crappy and expensive ($300K for a double wide https://www.zillow.com/homedetails/114-Atsaq-St-Bethel-AK-99559/2057361679_zpid/?utm_campaign=iosappmessage&utm_medium=referral&utm_source=txtshare )
And there’s no corresponding increase in pay rates…

Yeah, that's kind of weird. Engineers are pulling in less than $100K. I go to this committee twice a year that visits around the US, and they keep threatening to have us spend a week in Anchorage. I have no idea why we would want to do that, particularly since we meet in October and February/March.
