    I don't understand people sometimes and why they do things like that (burglers I mean).

    Poverty and systemic racism.

    @Horace

    Yes, material poverty can account for a part of it. Likewise the absence of anything resembling a civilized culture.

    However, systemic racism no more exists than does Islamophobia. Both are conjured myths beloved of academics and left wing populists to affect emotions and radical change. The fact is that neither have any basis or measurability in reality.

    So best to leave the root cause at poverty in all its social dimensions

      Saying this sort of thing out loud would get someone fired or at least reprimanded in 1000s of mainstream workplaces out there.

      Currently my company-controlled computer lock screen has a picture of a female of color in a lab coat peering intently at a test tube, with a caption about how the business vows to increase minority representation to some percent in the next five years.

      Education is extremely important.

        Our CEO just announced they'd appointed two executives to head up the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion task force. I couldn't help noticing that they were both middle-aged white-guys.

        I was only joking

          Our HR VP, a white female, led the creation of our DEI department. The department itself was initiated under the leadership of a black female, as I would bet money yours will be too. The HR VP, in introducing the DEI head, said that in their initial phone conversation, the DEI head was so amazing that the HR VP wanted to jump through the phone to hire her. Two years into the creation of our DEI department, all I can say for sure is that they spam my inbox with announcements about this or that day or month celebrating this or that minority culture. We haven't had a big minority day celebration since the first one, which I wrote about here. It was purportedly about all minorities, and speeches were given by guest speakers about the black experience and the gay experience. But when it came time for employee presentations about their own life journeys, it was a bunch of gay white guys weeping about how childhood was difficult, but now that they're a VP of a big company, life is better. But definitely people are still getting murdered for being gay, and we shouldn't forget that, because they never forget that.

          I can relate, now that I've been the target of death threats.

            I don’t dispute that.

            I anticipate that it will soon change and this present silliness will be a thing of the past. Reality will make it so.

            Colour me optimistic about the future.
