Payton is a my way or the highway coach. He also wants a certain type QB. Wilson ain't the type.

Yeah? Pittsburgh’s supposed to value locker room guys. That’s what’s supposed to be a part of what makes Pittsburgh different. Pittsburgh’s supposed to build from the draft rather than hire mercenaries. Oh, the occasional mid level lineman Sure. But not the attitude guy. Not the “star” not the look at me guy. Pittsburgh’s also supposed to be a team that doesn’t rebuild but competes. This move? This isn’t the Steelers or what they claim to be. This is the Redskins. This is the Browns. Sorry, but no. I’m not a guy that just roots for the Jersey. I walked away from the team during the Kordell years, and I might just walk away now.

Once Pittsburgh went for Trubisky I knew they were lost. This is a further step down that road.

Trubisky was somewhat understandable. This? Stupid.

A different read on the situation. Might not be so stupid after all.

I'm old enough to remember when Wilson was considered an extraordinary locker room guy. I guess it became clear that it was intentional branding on Wilson's part, and it wore thin.

            Education is extremely important.

A couple of major problems with the article -

              1. Those 6 quarters of success Pickett had post-Canada? That was still Canada’s system. Oh, a different play call maybe here or there, but even the play callers admit that nothing really changed. The difference was execution, not concept.

              2. They ignored the giant red-nosed reindeer in the room. Rudolph was the best NFL WB over the three most important weeks of the season. You could have signed Mason for 2 years at $5M per and signed Ryan Tannehill for similar. They still likely will sign Tannehill. The Wilson deal only haves $3.5 Million for the QB room.

              3. Wilson is 37 and declining. He is not your future or even a bridge. Last year his play was called garbage by Schlereth for a reason

              4. Let’s talk locker room - Seattle

                . Denver - https://www.vibe.com/news/sports/shannon-sharpe-russell-wilson-attitude-teammates-1234722685/

              5. What next? The phrase I keep hearing is “win a playoff game”. Great. Let’s say everything goes great and they win a playoff game. Where are they in 2025? No QB’s in the hopper, Wilson won’t come back for league minimum then, and he’s a year older/worse.

Locker room? He didn’t use the locker room his first year with the Broncos. He insisted on a private office/changing room at the Broncos facilities.

I just read that! The problem is that the Vikings will feel more likely to need a proven starter or draft early. If they draft early and put Rudolph in as the bridge, that’s a very short tenured gig. Frankly, pairing him up with Cousins in ATL would be a good move for him.

Yeah, but his wife’s from the area, and it wouldn’t be unusual for them to have 2 homes…

This actually puts the kibosh on my Mason to Minnesota plan. I don’t see them bringing in a question mark to start. Mason’s best chance was an honest to goodness open competition, or a chance to backup an older vet where he would still likely get starts.

There is a very bad rumor circulating that New England is interested in him as “the guy” for 2 years, though.

                                No, they cut Trubisky.

And now Rudolph is gone. Who the hell would want to play for Pitts if they had a choice? Is Trubisky still there?

I actually think there’s a chance Mason can win the Titan starting job. His overall stats are much better than Levis, and Callahan ain’t married to Levi’s. He was there when Callahan got there, and was only a 2nd round pick. If Mason outplays him in camp, I can see that happening. Unfortunately, Titans roster isn’t great, and Callahan is in a bit of a weird situation. He’s never actually been a play caller before, but he’s going to try to learn on the job while being a first time head coach? Okay….

If I was Mason, I would have been shooting for backup in ATL or Minnesota.

And if the Steelers don’t show significant progress this year? Tomlin has to go. Evidently his “standard” is trying to play fantasy football.

Though I am starting to open up to Wilson just a little… I’ve read that part of his problem with teammates is they view him as not being “black” enough. Carlton Banks is a nickname for him.

Yeah, it's been chaotic since Ben began to fade.

Sorry, but I’m not going to root for a Jersey. The Steelers ran their organization a bit differently. They’d sign FA, but the mid tier guys. The grunts. They would pay their own, though. Build through the draft. That was the approach. They’ve done Mason wrong
