Mental illness and politics

Mental illness and politics are a dangerous combination, as we see here whenever NS stops by. An American white guy just immolated himself in front of the Israel Embassy in protest of the Palestinian "genocide".

Saw the video earlier today. I’d have to imagine some form of mental illness is at play to do this. It’s hard to fathom the mindset to die in one of the most painful ways. He yells Free Palestine a few times after he’s on fire, which must be hard with both the pain and suffocation. Folks make fun of the video as the police response is a combination of shouting for a fire extinguisher and one guy pointing a gun at the burning man on the ground. At one point a cop says “we need fire extinguishers, not guns!”

I mentioned earlier today that Reddit can be a window onto the younger generation and their thinking. He is considered a martyr to what I imagine to be relatively mainstream young leftists. They grudgingly admit that maybe depression played a role, but then again, who wouldn't be depressed in this world, filled with genocide and whatnot? Also, for those wondering how they would have acted during American slavery or during the holocaust, it's however you're acting now.
Anyway those are the insights of the younger generation, taught well by our cherished middle aged white female progressives and their lovely ideas.

Earlier in the day, he’d made what would become his final post on Facebook.
“Many of us like to ask ourselves, ‘What would I do if I was alive during slavery? Or the Jim Crow South? Or apartheid? What would I do if my country was committing genocide?’” he wrote. “The answer is, you’re doing it. Right now.”
He was a fierce America hating leftist, and left an online trail for all to read about his indoctrination into radicalized leftism. But the above story is almost entirely about his upbringing in a Christian commune.

This one is bothering me a lot. The level of misunderstanding by the youth, and the willingness to accept all of these contrary claims at face value is really astounding and frightening.

@George-K said in Mental illness and politics:
"All American hero."
I am so surprised that Roger Waters took an extreme political stance and was vocal about it.

It’s so interesting how people who see themselves as more moral and virtuous are the first to rise to anger and violence. Horseshoe theory of human psychology. Anyway, opening one’s eyes at the human experience will always vindicate those of us who despise moralizing and self righteousness. It’s inevitably the gateway to all sorts of destructive stupidity. People aren’t nearly as smart as they think they are, and they damn sure aren’t as moral as they think they are.
