A bill dropped in Louisiana today...You carjack someone and the person suffers bodily harm of any kind...The perp gets a minimum of 20 years at hard labor. Egregious circumstances or severe harm to the victim? You're going down for 30 years.

30 years in Louisiana means you are not eligible for parole until you have served 20 years AND are at least 45 years old.

Carjack someone and break their arm or leg in the process? Well, if you are 20 years old, you'll serve a minimum of 25 years.

I hear the bill stands a good chance of passing ...

@Jolly they could pass that in Illinois.

No one will arrest or prosecute the perps. They'd be out on no-cash bail because of the Safe-T act.

@George-K @Jolly I am not saying the new laws in Louisiana and Illinois are bad, but to me, jail in the US is not really a "deterrent". If it was, the prison population would not be the highest in the world, yet there is still a crime issue.

Again, I dont have any answer, but what we have been doing in regard to locking people up does not seem to be working.

Ma'am, Louisiana used to have the highest incarceration rate.

        In the world. 🌎

That's fallen off under the previous Democrat governor. We have a new Republican governor. We have thousands of acres of bottom land down on The Farm. Law & Order is coming

        Come to Louisiana. FAFO.

It does not appear that the higher incarceration rates meant reduced crime.

I would be fine if they reduced the jail population for non-violent crimes (or whatever the marijuana inmates are called) but have no problem with extremely stiff sentences for unambiguously harmful crimes, such as carjacking or attacking someone with a weapon. This isn't stealing a loaf of bread to feed your kids, it is unlawful chaos. Cities thrive when crime is low. All cities should want extremely stiff penalties.

Not sure if this is in the US. THere's a Middle-eastern sounding music in the video.

I'd assumed all the crime stats were posted because it was in the US.

Well, that was a waste of time. Interfering OSHA and your pathetic nanny state legislation have led to an increase in car jacking!
