Racism update 2024/02/20

Come here to check on things and see nothing is changed except my ever increasing burning desire to meet Horace in person to knock the dog shit out that fills his cranium. What a piece of crap you are Horace. Can’t wait till y’all have to crawl back under your fucking rocks after Trump goes to prison forever. I just don’t understand how the few decent people that still reside here put up with this daily bullshit. Twisted brains still rule the roost here.

You know where to find me. I live in CA, up towards Berkeley. I took a short drive up to Napa and will be staying there for a couple days. Come on up and let’s settle this. I’ll be the tall white guy.

Nah, he's shaved since then.

Speaking of racism, The Resident plays the race card again. Says MAGA GOP worse than Strom Thurmond.

It's a well known psychological phenomena that those with the most inward hatred of "others" such as those with black skin, will, when in a social context where hatred of racism is advantageous, turn into the most virulent of anti-racists. I often recall the recent study where white liberals talked down to minorities in a measurable manner, to a greater extent than conservatives. To the liberals, they are being virtuous by making sure the minority can understand them, so they don't use big words.

As I recall, early Joe B was not exactly a champion of black rights.
Nor gay marriage. He changes with the political wind. Don't forget it was a Democrat President in the 90s who instituted a policy where gays in the military shouldn't tell others that they could suck a golf ball through a garden hose.

He speaks and performs well, for an overbearing blowhard. I mean it's not just me. The comments under that video are almost unanimous. Those who know him by reputation still have a lot of respect for him, but in that sense he is a figurehead, and he is a figurehead because he was promoted to be such. And he was promoted to be such due in large part because the west loves to promote people of color to classically white figurehead positions. Anyway obviously this is not provable and we can disagree. I'm not convinced that there is no bullpen behind him containing one or more white faces. Not that I care about who is or is not the popular face of science, I just can't not acknowledge the skin color aspect of that position and how giddy the culture is to promote an appropriate looking person in that role.
I think we're talking about two different things. You're talking about his reputation now and why it exists in the way that it does. I don't disagree about that. I was only speaking to how he got from research scientist at the Hayden to someone people outside of planetarium conventions pay attention to. Speaking to that, you may find him annoying, but start hanging out with other planetarium directors and then reassess. The life of the party they absolutely are not, so in comparison, Tyson's an obvious choice for a more public face. The events that led to his presence beyond his field, sure, I could see it being a bit of a woke sensibility thing.
