There is some confusion as to whether this was male to female or female to male.
And these are just the well publicized cases. The cross dressing serial killer is a common trope in literature and film. Those stereotypes don’t come from a vacuum.

ABC calls it a "gun" or "long rifle."

Her son? Reports I read were confused about that. It seemed like it was a child she had custody of but wasn’t her child. Foster or some such thing.

Houston police said on Monday that its investigation has thus far determined that the shooter, Genesse Ivonne Moreno, identified as female despite using multiple aliases, including the name Jeffery — or Jeffrey — Escalante. Multiple court records identify Moreno as female, most recently in 2022.
Key point is that Moreno is no longer identified as alive.

I don’t believe that I stayed the shooter was trans, but frankly, did the shooter (biological female) not self identify in the past as a male?

And as much as the public face of transgenderism is a boy becoming a female, the sad facts are the vast majority are abused young ladies identifying as men.
