Mehhhh, Since he was 13 I’ve been giving him sips of beer “oh, that’s gross” and when he turned 16 an occasional sip of whiskey “hey, that’s not bad” to de-mystify alcohol. He’s 21, and I’ve never got the call to come pick him up, or even seen him come home tipsy. I know he’s gone to a few parties in college (there was a frat recruiting him), but the kid’s pulling a 3.7 GPA on a pretty heavy science load. I tend to think that his head is screwed on straight.
He’s going out with his buddies tomorrow. They were talking about a designated driver, but I’m making them Uber instead.

Kids these days don't really party like we did back in the day. When my daughter turned 21 (last year), her attitude was "meh, I've been drinking wine since 2nd grade" (Holy Communion every Sunday). She and her friends would much rather go out to a nice restaurant than to a bar. As a parent I see that as a good thing.

I have to give the kid credit. He and his high school friends had an overnight game session. We knew in advance that drinks would be involved… But at 9 this morning the kid was up, at the DMV getting his car registration renewed, and was in the road back to CNU at noon…
