Movie recco for LFD & other hikers

Cynically, okay, yes, it's kind of an elaborate ad for Z Packs.
But it's also a great documentary that illustrates the pros and cons of hiking: a lot of it would suck to deal with in a vacuum, but you're having too much fun to care; hiking buddies are often people you'd seldom otherwise fraternize with; crazy crap can happen on easy-seeming terrain; what being gone for awhile really means and why it's not a bad idea, etc., etc.
They also talk a lot about the history of the trail and how it came to be, which, not being from Utah, I thought was pretty cool.
@Aqua-Letifer Thanks Aqua, I will watch it too.
BTW, @Aqua-Letifer and @89th are you close to the Appalachian Trail? Have you ever hiked sections?
Another bucket item of mine. LOL
EDIT: Just saw I can't watch it. I do not have any of the service that shows it. I guess I will just have to wait. LOL

@taiwan_girl yes we both are. I think Aquas hiked a good chunk of it or at least more than me! It’s a bucket list item of mine, too.

Yep, we're both pretty close. I've hiked sections in NH, PA, MD, VA and NC, and I've done four-state challenge a couple of times.
An often unspoken thing about the AT is that it's BORING. There are MASSIVE sections across many states that look exactly the same: brown everywhere, brown leaves covering the trail, trees that look identical and occasional white blazes, for many, many miles. But as an upshot, hey, tree cover, towns everywhere, and many water sources.
Don't get me wrong, I do like the AT, but a through-hike requires mental discipline just as much as physical fitness. So if I completely wig out in middle age and do something stupid, I might look for another venue. PCT, maybe.

40's around the corner! If we haven't bought muscle cars or vinyl or anything by then, hey, just sayin'!

As long as I can outrun you if a bear shows up, I’m safe!
I'm a very slow runner so you're good there. But for good measure it'd be a good idea to each carry something that can be used for kneecapping—then the game is afoot!

That is what I have hear reading about long distance hikes. After a while, the mental challenge is much more difficult than the physical part.
Some other cool ones in the US that do not seem to be as intense as the Appalachian, Pacific Coast or the Continent Divide Trail is the Ice Age Trail in Wisconsin, ONLY about 1000 miles and follows the bottoms edge of where the last ice age glaciers went. Or, the Superior Lake Trail in Minnesooooota and MIchigan (I think)
Of course, there is always the Arctic Circle Trail!!!! LOL

Yep! Some are easier to deal with than others. I've never hiked Te Araroa but a buddy of mine did. They planned it out to be geographically diverse, so even though some sections are boring it does change, section to section.

I didn’t know about the ice age trail, sounds interesting! I’ve been on a few parts of the Superior Hiking Trail, and know there are some crazy endurance running races along it. It’s all along the north shore (MN, north edge of Lake Superior). Cool area.

Yes, the north shore is wonderful, as is southeast Minnesooooooota. -
Cool, I will definitely watch. Have to admit, though, I’’m not really a hiker, more a camper that hates packing too much shit and doesn’t mind a couple days of long walks...
