A tour through the TDS afflicted mind

It's easy to read this essay as TDS sufferers being terrified that Trump might do to their side, what their side is doing to Trump's side.

Surprisingly, the comments section is relatively rational. By which I mean, dismissive of the tribal hysteria porn essay.

Horace, some day - doesn’t even have to be soon, but let’s say before next year’s election - could you address the substance of the overall concerns some people have about Trump subverting democracy? And how they might be especially acute in a second term? I mean address them substantively. Without the ad hominems and without answering questions with questions
IOW, steel man the concerns and tell us why they’re unfounded.
Again no hurry. But sometime in the next 12 months.

The whole essay was an attempt to steel man those concerns. Do you think it missed any? Do you think I can't copy/paste from it?
I read it pointedly, like I wanted the nuts and bolts of how Trump would become a dictator. I saw something about getting rid of the term limit amendment. Is that what keeps you up at night? Which part of the piece most resonated with you, jon?

I didn’t read it. But this post something you repeat periodically.
Zoom out, label directionally, accuse of repetition. Oh, something jon does periodically. Yay, winnarz on the interwebz.
Look at what these TDS people are worried about! Oh my the TDS! So TDS of them!
So again, no hurry. When you get a chance.
Again, the whole essay is a steel man of the position I'm responding to. To be clear, you want me to take an 8500 word essay and expand on it, from the author's perspective? Or did you want me to prove my reading comprehension of hysteria porn? I guess you'll never read it, but it would be fun seeing your answer to which part of it resonated with you most strongly.

Again, no hurry. It’s not a reasonable thing to request in the moment. But you seem to think concerns about Trump being a threat to our democracy are ‘hysterical’, ‘deranged’, etc. Not just from this guy, it’s a common theme of yours that dates back to before the 2020 election.
At some point you should calmly tell us why.

Thank you for the posturing as the adult in the room. another thing you do periodically and oh so well. The null hypothesis is that a Trump presidency will not lead to a dictatorship. The burden of the argument would be on the people claiming dictatorship around the corner. The argument for that dictatorship was laid out in 8500 words. I'll tell you what. Lift a brain cell, read the piece, and point me to something in it you'd like me to respond to.

I specifically asked not to answer it with questions. Presumably if one has posted many times over four years that such concerns are - not just unfounded but deranged and hysterical - one has given it some thought and can explain his conclusions.
At least Horace. I wouldn’t make such a request of certain others.

Given what, specifically, some thought? Actually I've written here a few times that I'd love to see a story written about hypothetical scenarios in which Trump gains control of America. I would love to see people thinking about closing whatever loopholes exist. If a bad actor president can just take control if he chooses to, then obviously it's in everybody's best interest to do something about that. But as it is, the hysteria takes the shape of Trump Terrifying, with little substance to think about. That's why I actually took the time to read these 8500 words.

Meh. We went much deeper than that even leading up to the 2020 election. Once I even specifically brought up the idea of him conjuring up a slate of competing electors. You simply dismissed it out of faith that such a thing must be impossible.
But how deranged did such a concern turn out to be?
Again, this is just an example.

That would have led to a supreme court smack down, from the attempts I've heard of people trying to take that seriously.

"So, the Trump administration will have many avenues to persecute its enemies, real and perceived. Think of all the laws now on the books that give the federal government enormous power to surveil people for possible links to terrorism, a dangerously flexible term, not to mention all the usual opportunities to investigate people for alleged tax evasion or violation of foreign agent registration laws"
Oh my giddy aunt. We can only hope that CNN gets notified before a pre-dawn raid of FBI agents arrives to get it all on tape - again.

It's so easy to read the whole piece with a recognition that most of the stuff was already happening, only in service of the author's tribe.
I guess jon would like everybody to believe that really compelling arguments exist, just not in that 8500 word piece, written by someone absolutely immersed in this stuff.
