Stopped off for lunch at a local burger place. I am on a diet right now, but the place has a really good portobello burger. I get it wrapped in lettuce and served on a salad.

Lady in front of me: “Hi! I’d like one of your portobello sandwiches, please? I hear they are very good, and I am vegan.”

Clerk: “Sure thing, would you like cheese?”

Her: “No THANK you, I’m vegan.”

Him: “We have several plant based cheeses available.”

Her: “No thank you, and please ask the cook to wipe down that section of the grill before cooking? I really don’t want any beef grease to touch my sandwich, Kay? Thanks!”

Clerk: “Next?”

Me: “Yeah, I’ll have a half pound cheeseburger, extra cheese…. In fact, you can take the cheddar from her portobello she didn’t want and just toss it on top of mine…”

Him (smiling): “Anything else?”

Me: “Can you guys fry an egg and toss it on top? But make sure the yolk is runny…, oh, and a small chocolate shake…”

I’ve set my weight loss goals back a week, but the looks on their faces made it worth it…

One should never be that fussy with restaurant folks unless you are watching them make it. Karen + vegan could be fatal.

Not directly and fantastic. The egg yolk exploded and some squirted on the table. I made a big deal about wiping it up.
