Can we talk about facial hair?
-
I was 20 years old when I grew facial hair for the first time. It didn't come in looking too pubic, IYKWIMAITYD.
I keep it for 2 years, until my medical school interview. Kept the 'stache, however. Once I got accepted, the facial hair came back. This was 1972. I kept that beard until 1985, when Mrs. George asked, "I wonder what you'd look like without..."
I was clean-shaven until 1997. Until that time, every time I looked in the mirror, I didn't recognize the guy, having had a beard through all my "growing-up" years. In 1997, I grew this beard, and I've had it since. 26 years.
So, I've had facial hair for more than half my life, and that includes from my birth.
So, yesterday, I was in a waiting room with Mrs. George, waiting for a CT scan. As I looked around, every male (I assume they were male) had a beard.
Every single one.
It amazes me that it's become so common.

@Horace said in Can we talk about facial hair?:
Facial hair makes me look like a homeless person.
Chicago people will understand the "Lower Wacker Drive" look.

Yeah, well, tell that to Lincoln.
OTOH, there's a difference between having some facial hair and looking like a slog (see "Wacker" comment). I don't understand the current "I just got out of bed and I didn't shave" look either.

One man's opinion who describes himself as a "Master Solutionary at The Center for Dialogic Leadership".
Now I almost want to grow a beard.

Not into the Yasser Arafat look. Never was, never will be.
Closest I’ve ever approached facial hair is the Leon Trotsky goatee and stash or the Joe Stalin moustache.
Settled on the clean shaven Bonaparte look. Although I didn’t dislike the Uncle Joe moustache.

I noticed the beards coming back about 10 years ago, and even mustaches now. All styles are cyclical... All my brothers (and dad) have them, but I've never let it grow for more than 2 weeks. Got too itchy... now I let it grow but shave it every 5 days or so. I like the look and feel of a few days of growth, but can't get into the longer stuff.

I haven't paid much attention. Yesterday at the gym I decided to look around, far less than half had facial hair, not counting some two day Sunday stubble.
And it's not just guys in my demographic there, its right off the parkway only a few miles from Yonkers, so there's a mix of ages and ethnicities.
