I remember reading somewhere that the next wars (not only in the US, but worldwide) will be fought over water, not oil.

On our way to Vegas we saw Lake Mead and how far down it is. It's different than seeing it in pictures. More impact. Yet Vegas still uses a ridiculous amount.

They're not. Dams are extremely controversial. They drastically change ecosystems. That's not really up for any serious debate. The argument is whether those changes are actually as detrimental as they appear to be.

I think sometimes that makes sense. Not all dams are equally helpful to humans. But if they're generating a massive percentage of power and there aren't any alternatives, that would be very bad.
