We’re not doing a full turkey this year, just a bone in turkey breast. Should I prepare it like a normal Turkey or go ahead and smoke it? I love smoked turkey. Not the lunch meat, but the real deal… But will it go well with the traditional sides that everyone wants?

I've done bone-in turkey breast a few times.

The problem is that there's none of that wonderful drippings that you need for a good gravy.

But...if you're going to smoke it, go for it. Sounds great.

        Smoked turkey goes with anything.

I’m doing a bone-in turkey breast this year and skipping the gravy. Partly because most prefer cranberry sauce and also because I’m skipping the mashed potatoes.

Thank you for your attention to this matter.

I’m starting to regret my choice… I love smoked turkey breast, but I also love dark meat…

Alright, I miss the dark meat a little, but this was well worth it… I might try it next year with a whole bird.

One little side hack I read suggested adding a TBSP of Baking Powder to the spice rub to get a crisper skin, and I have to say that it worked very well. This was the best poultry skin I’ve had coming off the grill.

I was the only one at the table who enjoyed some of the dark meat from our turkey. Am I an idiot? I always find it tastes a bit better and juicier than the white meat. Of course it all tastes good when you drown it in gravy and add some cranberry orange sauce.
