I have a Montblanc pen from my father-in-law. It works very well, but it's not a typical 145. It's a LeGrand Traveler. So, it's a cartridge filler, not a piston filler.

I'm tired of using the freaking cartridges. Like the pens, Montblanc everything else is ridiculously over-expensive. When you get a Montblanc, you are 100% paying for the name. I have far better fountain pens—better nibs, better materials, better writers, more reliable, less fussy—that cost a fifth as much. So, fuck it, let's make this cheaper and open up the possibility of using other ink.

There's a dude online who used a Monteverde small converter along with some butt splices to make the conversion. The great thing about this method is that it's entirely non-invasive. It doesn't void the warranty, it makes no permanent changes whatsoever.

The biggest bitch of it is to cut off a piece of the butt splice. It has to be pretty exact. It has to grip onto the rest on the cartridge cage and provide no play for the converter.

    IMG_7773.jpg

After a lot of trial-and-error, I was able to get this and the converter to fit rather nicely inside the cage. But notice: you can't fill the pen by drawing in from the converter through the nib. What this means is that you need to draw the ink out through the nib using Q-tips to get it started. This takes a bit but once it's going, it's going.

After that, you're good to go.

    Please love yourself.

After a lot of trial and error I was able to get this thing to work but not satisfying

I think it’s time I switched to montblanc.

Will it make my writing legible? Anymore I go back and look at my own notes wondering what the hell words I supposed I was writing down.

No it will not. 😄 However, no writing cramps with fountain pens and they do change your handwriting somewhat due to the nib shape and the way you have to hold them.

I had one. Another extravagant gift. I think I actually gave it away. Pens don’t do it for me.

That's fair. I personally couldn't give a shit about the pageantry of them. I need pens that damn work. Instead of sitting down to write long letters or notes or something, I write short notes about 50 times a day. So my main pen's a Vanishing Point.

Attached to my wallet, though, is a Kaweco Lilliput. Very small, aluminum, impossible to leak. Didn't even cost $50.

                      Please love yourself.

I've never had an expensive pen - I figured it would get lost.

Ditto watches. I got a Raymond Weil as a gift once. Never wear it.

Wife and I went out to a new restaurant last week. As we were seated, she looked at me and said, "The food must be good, I recognized three doctors as we walked to the table".
