Anybody have a home espresso machine? I would like to get a good one but I've heard they are easy to break and difficult to repair.

I had a cheap one years ago. Nothing fancy. It was ok.

        Only non-witches get due process.

I don't have it - but I've used it: Gaggia Classic. (link)

$400-$500 bucks. You can get manual machines for cheaper, but you need to be a coffee nerd to get all the variables right. (https://www.flairespresso.com/)

You also need a decent grinder - which is another $100-150.

Had cheaper machines before. This is the first one where the espresso is really good. Cheap machines are a waste of money because you won't use them.

Just as important is a good coffee mill.

When it comes to coffee mills, I've found cheaper is better. I've tried a lot of different grinders and mills, and the best one to date is the one that came free with my French Press I bought 20 years ago. Because there are no settings, you have to be extremely careful how long you run the stupid thing. As a result, you have to actually watch and judge for yourself when the ground is right.

We got a DeLonghi in the recent re-opening sales (500 down to 300). And a separate grinder.
But I'd love a Bezzera, they are top quality, prices here start at about 750

Yes indeed. You need a burr grinder.

I have a Breville I really like. It was a couple hundred I think. Big fan of Breville stuff.

@Mik A good friend has the Breville espresso + grinder combo. He always makes a good cup.

Trust me - if you make the coffee out of sight of your guests and make a load of disgusting noises while you're doing it, nobody will be any the bloody wiser.

If they do complain, tell them they should have had the freaking pretentious green tea like you originally offered.

                          I was only joking
